Usually we misconceive comforts for happiness. let us say in a very hot day u r very uncomfortable ,sweating and hot, u go to an air conditioned room .when u sit in front of the a/c u feel wonderful…now that your comfortable your mind takes u for a ride. u start building up thoughts of how wonderful it will be if u owned a bungalow in ooty or kodaikanal, dream that u enjoy the climate while sitting with a hot cup of tea on the beautiful garden with evergreen lawn .this thought gradually gathers momentum and every moment u sit before an a/c the ooty bungalow flashes in your mental horizon .now a desire has been created unconsciously and u do anything and everything to make your dream come true .the greater the craving the higher will be the satisfaction or happiness when it materializes. you move into the house ,that night u discover that your house is haunted, will u stay there another night. thereafter the very name of ooty will make u shiver. .the object which u thought will bring happiness now becomes a nightmare which u despise .so what is happiness?

let us perceive we can get happiness if we have a big suitcase full of money or gold. u go to the airport ready to leave for the most exotic dreamland .suddenly you see airport officials checking the passengers suitcase as they suspect someone smuggling illegal gold .what will be your reaction .your thoughts at once take you to the most dirtiest prison, you behind bars in a black and white prison suit…you silently leave back you suitcase and run for your life. the object which u thought will give you happiness is the cause for your misery now. Then how can you decide that it is going to be the source of your happiness. If happiness is not in the objects of your desire then where is happiness.

When we are affected by viral fever the doctor isolates the virus and gives us anti biotic to eliminate the virus. Our body regains health when the virus is destroyed. The nature of the body was health. When an antibody or something against the nature of the body entered It, the body became sick. We need not go in search for health when we are sick. We have only to understand the reason for ill health and cure it. Same way our nature is happiness, we are infected by the disease called unhappiness. The least we can do is to identify the cause for unhappiness and cure it. when we do this much happiness is what remains. Now what is the cause for unhappiness.

When our stomach is upset we usually start thinking about what we ate for lunch that day, if there was nothing which could have created that problem, you usually go to the breakfast menu to find a reason for your problem. Same way to track down the proper reason for unhappiness, we have to carefully analyze our action in life.
Ask yourself ‘ What did I do today that made me unhappy?’,
The cause for your unhappiness may be many. But the underlying source for all your unhappiness is desire and expectations. Your desired a CEO posting but you got only a managerial post, you expected to get state rank in your board exams, but you could not even come first in you own school. The list goes on from the most silliest thing to the most serious matters of your life. Therefore should we remove desires and expectations to regain our happiness. Unlike our physical ailment, we need not isolate or destroy the antibody. Even before the doctor treated the disease with his medicine, he first cured it in his mind, the moment he identified the problem. Once we start analyzing our self we start gaining knowledge about our self. Self knowledge is what is required to identify the cause for our miseries in life. Once you find out the cause you are already cured. Knowledge is not hoarding thoughts given to us from all directions. True knowledge is to start thinking the thoughts. The thought that you are unhappy and that you have no happiness can be understood only when you start thinking about that thought.
All forms of knowledge help in understanding this universe perceived by us. But knowledge of the self helps us in understanding our inner landscapes yet to be perceived. It is the ultimate knowledge, on receiving which we will be able to function from the inside out with lots of understanding, clarity and freedom. Truly guided by our soul and not hijacked by whims and fancies of our mind. Just like when u learn driving, you master the controls and then you can easily drive thru all obstacles on your way.. its like Dethroning the useless king ruling your life, and crowning yourself as the most powerful emperor eternally.
