you can register your child for any school as long as you are willing to drive them there. this applies mostly to private schools. please understand, funds for public schools are determined by districts and how many children are in that district, so you may be encouraged to keep them in your particular district.

I live in London, so we don't have districts we have boroughs. I put both of my kids in a school in a different borough. the school is about 4 miles from where we live, so it's a bit of a pain doing the tube ride in the morning. But if you believe, as I did, that the schools in your area are not up to scratch, I don't see why you shouldn't at least give it a try applying. It was easier for me to get my kids into said school because I work less than a minute away. I don't know what your circumstances are, or why you're considering such a move, but I wish you all the luck in the world with it. It's one of the most important decisions you will make in the lives of your children, so choose well.

It will depend on the district and their rules about allowing children to cross district lines.
You could plead a hardship(say you work in one district and would not be able to pick the child up should they get sick or such, because the child is in another district so far away)
You may have to complete lots of forms, going to hearings and meetings and basically beg to get what you want, and you may even have to pay to send your child to a school other then the one he/she is assigned to, even if it is a public school.

aloud, huh...then if you think you savor every now and then to drive to and fro your children to school or if you live nearer in that school that your child's first school, then you can enroll him/ her there...make sure you help your child to adapt ot his/ her new school and understand every single tantrum he throws at you (if your kid is young...)about missing his old school...it would really take some time for him to get used to it and just be patient about it...
