apo2_99 is wrong, you do sweat, but your in a pool so who cares. but there are many advantages. good for cardiocascular stuff, both aerobic and anaerobic activity. stretches out your muscles, relieves stress, helps you sleep, keeps you in shape/ gets you in shape. very fun. good way to avoid drowning. and just by learning to swim, you'll be a better swimmer than 95% of the world, so that is cool.

Swimming is a complete body exerciser. Plus it is also the most low-impact high efficiency exercise I can think of. Chances of injury are minimal. Water also has a therapeutic effect on the body. I find muscle ache and other niggling pains actually decrease after a swim.

Swimming is one of the best sports, the best for general fitness. It works you arms, legs and most importantly your core. It builds strength and aerobicness. Also, it is the only sport in which you are deprived of oxygen. And unlike running and stuff where you like pound in the pavement it is easy on your joints.

it works your whole body at once, and burns more calories than other types of workouts. it's also good if you ahve past injuries because it doesn't aggrevate them. also, it is great for your heart and really helps with your lungs and breathing! an extra plus is you see other people with their hot swimming bodies in swimsuits at the pool!! ;)
