She already is. Her science and tech is ahead of the U.S. Her people, or, human power, is more motivated and productive than any other nation's in the world. She's nuclear and well trained as a military force. And, she's not in debt . . .forever in debt . . .like the U.S. She is already showing her might upon the world. Why would China start to try to dominate other nations and become militarily aggressive ?
At this point China is still in the early stages of being a consumer nation.
The resources in each country are already locked down, with the former soviet union having most of them and you know which way they went.
To answer your question: "What if ?"

Chinese are mainly interested in business. China sometimes makes a lot of noise about Taiwan or North Korea, but the thing they are really interested in is economical success.

I think 50 years from China may be the dominating superpower in the world, but I don't believe they will "liberate" any country like the US does in Afghanistan or Iraq. It isn't their interest to spread democracy or to remove terrorists. So I am not worried about China's military power.

China's economy is currently growing at a rate of 9% per year, now this is unprecedented for any country to be industrializing this quickly. However, China is a great deal behind the west and lacks the necessary infrastructure at this point. Militarily they do have quite a few citizens and would be able to repel almost any invasion; however, they lack the ability to project their will globally. Their economy will continue to grow and interweave into the global economy. The current trends of globalization make conflicts much less likely, since an attack on one country would hurt ones own economy.
