I was stuck for something for my husband's b'day (who shares your boyfriend's interests) and just bought him a radio controlled vehicle. I got a monster truck at Radio Shack and he ADORES this thing. He bragged to all his friends and now the truck, which has a large truckbed, delivers our drinks and snacks around the house-what a blast! Here's the top picks in r/c vehicles this year http://rcvehicles.about.com/od/toys/tp/rctoys06.htm but I can heartily recommend the truck, he was soooooo happy.

Does he like music? buy him an FM Modulator for his car.
I have the VRFM8 and it works really great. Just plug in your memory stick and play your MP3's. No more CD's in the car just 1 gig sticks.
Good Luck
