I understand that US dollars are / will no longer be used in Cuba, and I need to take pound sterling to convert over there to Peso's. I am staying at an All Inclusive resort (for 2 wks) with a couple of nights in Havana - does anyone have an idea of how much cash I should take to convert?? Thanks!

Rather than naming a sum (as other have done), I would suggest you ask your travel agent. They will have a better idea of your lifestyle and entertainment expectations than will anyone here.

Check out Cuba's tourism website. I'm in Canada so I went to the official tourism site (GoCuba.ca). It was terrific. Give it a try (or the UK version).

When you're in Havana, don't miss the show at the Tropicana. 'Astounding' is a word that doesn't do it half justice. Have a great time!

There aren't too many ATM's around, and the ones that are there may not have enough money inside of them for large cash withdrawls... you will be able to get money off a credit card (that doens't go through an american bank) at most hotels or banks, though the lineups will be long. Also keep in mind that outside of Havana it might become significantly more difficult to find somewhere to take money out. What I prefer to do when travelling rather than deciding how much money I SHOULD bring, I look at how much I can AFFORD to bring, then work out a daily budget from there. Save a bit aside from one day's budget and add it to the next day's if you want to go on a more expensive outing, etc... Take it from someone who's travelled on next to nothing.... when you give yourself lots to spend, you'll spend lots, when you give yourself a reasonable amount to spend, you'll spend a reasonable amount. If you're broke, you'll get real good at finding the cheap places to go, lol. But also leave yourself a bit of a cushion in your bank account back home in case you do spend more than anticipated. There's no worse feeling than coming home to an empty bank account and it's time to pay rent :p Also, someone said something about needing 20 pesos to get out of the country, just want to tell you that that's CONVERTIBLE pesos (tourist dollars), NOT local pesos... if you have 20 local pesos, you've got less than a dollar and that will get you nowhere :p. And I think it might actually be 25... better keep that much just to be on the safe side. Put it in your passport as soon as you get into the country and get convertibles.

Hi

I did the same trip in June (honeymoon). Spent about £250 in Havana and then only about £50 at the all-inclusive, just in the spa. Also have change for tips because it's pretty much expected - even at the places it says you don't need to!
The amount to take will depend on whether you want to go on day trips etc. I lazed on the beach alot!

You need to remember to keep back about 20 pesos to pay a tax at the airport when you leave - tour guide should tell you about this.

You also can't use credit cards issued by American banks or use American Express - I was OK with my Visa card.

Have a great time.

you have not any reason to fret once you arrive in Cuba you may replace some money on the airport. The places the position money is exchanged is termed a "cadeca" the overseas money they provide you with is calle "cuc" or also accepted as "convertible" they have those "cadecas" at maximum lodges and in lots of different spots in Cuba also you may substitute money at banks.

Lots of people seem to have answered your 'cash' question.

However, the other 'currency' is toiletries etc. To get the ABSOLUTE best service from your chambermaid etc., take loads of cheap bars of soap, small bottles of shampoo etc. These are very hard for the locals to come by, and they will LOVE you for it.

Hope this helps!

i would find out if they have ATM's there. if they do, you don't need to take as much cash then.

no ATM = about 2000 pound sterling
ATM = about 300 pound sterling
