i do.there is no point hanging on to life if a person is suffering from some terminal illness, especially if he does not want to be a burden on others

For the purposes of an essay, you need to be able to present both arguments in an unbiased fashion. Bear in mind that if you express a personal opinion on whether it's right or wrong, you may be taking a stance that is the complete opposite of your teacher/examiner, so it may be better to leave it with a moral quandary, like:
In the crusades, we were besieged. It was inevitable that the walls would be breached and my brother had taken a debilitating wound from a flaming arrow. We had no choice but to run away, but my brother couldn't even stand, let alone walk or run. He begged me to run him through with my sword, quickly (lest he be captured by the other side, whoever they may be).
What would you do?

Agree in certain cases!
We dont think it wrong to euthanise a sick animal, even if treatment could keep it alive!
I have lived and cared for someone who was bedridden and in constant pain. Many times she thought of suicide! For her families sake she didn't do it as she was frightened the authorities would think we'd helped her. She used to say 'if I was a horse they'd shoot me!' It wasn't said in fun!
Did you know that if a person is unable to communicate the Doctors can decide to withold treatment especially if the patient signs a release before hand stating they dont want treatment to continue.
It doesn't work the other way. If you say you want treatment to continue its still left to the Doctor to decide. I know as a friend just lost a legal battle over this issue.!
That should give you plenty of scope for the essay!
Stress the differences between animal/human and you dont have to state how you feel about it.

I think that euthanasia should be allowed. Think of it this way :

If you have a beloved pet who has an incurable disease/illness, which is in constant pain and has NO quality of life and the vet recommends putting it to sleep and you don't do anything about it, the RSPCA can prosecute you for letting an animal suffer. Yet if the same situation applies to humans, you are unable to do anything about it !!! The logic behind the principle just isn't there !!! Why can we do one thing for animals but not for humans? It just doesn't make any sense!!!

The BBC Website has a lot of information on this subject and its quite easy to understand

http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/ethics/euthanasia/

I believe euthanasia should be OK with the consent of the person who is ill. If they want to die they should be allowed to that's how i see it . But it how to remove the abuse of this that is a concern in any country that would make it legal. There would need to be several regulations to make sure that the euthanasia is what the person with the illness wants.

Take the story of Diane Petty she was in tremendous pain and wanted to die with dignity and stop her suffering. Instead she died after a painful ordeal i don't see how people could think this is fair. We now live in a vastly secular country and laws should be adapted to this new secularisation.,

Argue both sides - terminally ill person wants to die with dignity & relieve the endless suffering. Should a mentally ill person with severe, on-going depression be given the same choice? How should terminally ill be determined. What impact on those left behind. Look up Jack Krevorkian on the internet and The hemlock society. I guess you don't have to decide - you can conclude that, you would never like to be in the position to make the choice if that is how you feel. Good luck

I did an essay on this when i was 15. I went 'for' it. Im 24 now and still feel the same towards it.
The best way to choose is to imagine urself having a terminal illness. How would you feel not being able to do anything and having others do everything? Would it be fair on carer, especially if they are a family member? Their life would be looking after you and nothing else.

Think abt it.

I had to write an essay on this at school. I was for it, because I believe that if someone is in a lot of pain and has a low quality of life and wants to die, then they should be given that option. They should be allowed to die with dignity and not have to endure pain and suffering. However this is just my humble opinion, there are many arguments for and against, which I am sure you will get from other people on here! good luck with your essay :-)

I agree with euthanasia. Nobody should suffer through a fatal illness needlessly-if there is no hope for a cure/remission,and the patient would prefer to die sooner rather than endure the pain for who knows how much longer, than I think they should have that right. It also gives the patient a chance to express their wishes and say their goodbyes when they know their 'time'.

Can't you present both sides of the debate, and then end with saying something like, it depends on individual choices and circumstances.

I still can't commit myself to either side of the debate - on one hand I've a very strong religious upbringing that holds that God gives and takes life, so for another human being to decide is wrong. On the other hand, what do you do when someone is suffering terribly with no hope for recovery - isn't it then more compassionate to end their pain and give them rest?

There must be a plebiscite on this issue and I am
absolutely sure euthanasia ' Yes ' group will win
by a large majority.
