Tarot is an ancient method of understanding yourself and the world around us.
I'm not sure exactly what you want to know. I read Tarot cards, so I'll tell you what it's like when I do a reading for a person:
The reading actually begins as soon as I receive a question via email. I will begin to think about the situation and I will take note of any images or feelings I receive. Often these initial impressions give valuable insight into the reading. Some people feel a sensation that I am “with” them when I am thinking about the reading, or when I am drawing the cards.
When it is time to draw the cards, I will chose the deck (or decks) that I feel will be most appropriate and helpful for the reading. Before every reading I ask my Spirit Guide for protection and guidance. I always light candles, and visualize a white or golden light going into my cards, so that they will be purified. This helps to ensure that the cards are not holding onto the energy of a previous reading.
As I type the reading, I try to be honest, yet sensitive to the individual person's needs. I give the information that I feel will best guide that person as he or she proceeds on their journey, but I won’t be overly dramatic. Although I will offer guidance and direction, I don’t generally answer “yes/no” questions. I believe that Tarot is a tool to help us understand ourselves, so even though I might not answer the exact question that was asked, the asker will probably discover much more than was expected.

The many different tarot decks available will all portray symbolic imagery which must then pass through your psychic senses and, given the context of the questions asked, bring forth a tarot card meaning that significantly answers your question.
You can use this four minute video as a brief meditation on the tarot that, repeatedly viewed, will help you learn how to read tarot cards psychically. http://www.psychic-junkie.com/tarotvision.html
Here is a free download demo for a great Tarot program. To keep the size of the demo manageable it contains the Rider/Waite deck, the actual program will have 10 complete decks. This Demo version of Tarot is a full working copy for 30 days. So you get 30 days to study meanings and spreads! http://www.free-tarot-download-demo.wotsnext.com
