I think if Pop idol included some aspects of the X factor and perhaps raise the age limit it would rain supreme.

It already to me is a better programme format, Pop idol was more contestant focused and with the added advantage of Ant and Dec as presenters it was more anjoyable to watch.

I hate the way the X factor judges are more of the centre of attention and vote for them selves. Despite how good the singing was.

I like to produce my own things and honestly I only watch the X factor when I can be bothered.

Manufactured music is still good, at least we know that they can sing and are talented.

Most artists either can't sing or mime

I wouldn't say there's enough difference to differentiate between the two.

I like them both but I don't really see how Pop Idol is anything different from the Popstars series or the BBC's Fame Academy, whereas the X Factor has the three different categories, plus a different judge mentoring each one. Not only do the contestants compete to win in their own right but the judges are also competing with each other and there's the added challenge of the type of act that could win - group, 16-25 and 25 and overs. All this makes it a whole lot more interesting and I think opening the contest up to these different kinds of acts makes viewers of every age and preference feel a bit more involved rather than the show only expressing an interest in young contestants (like Pop Idol has) which makes everyone over 25 feel a bit old and past it before their time.

People think these shows are a waste of time but I think that when you look at all the new people who are signed up by record companies each year, this is one of the very few ways that the process comes into the limelight for viewers to follow and in the end, it is only one person who gets the deal so it's hardly a pointless show.

Finally, Will Young, Kelly Clarkson, Lemar, Shayne Ward, G4 and Girls Aloud are all enjoying successful careers as a result of these shows so people are wrong to say that no one ever goes on to bigger and better things afterwards.

I do like all the shows but I think that the x factor is the best just because it comes with all those little extras that make it more interesting and entertaining to watch than the other similar programmes.

If Pop Idol comes back with the format of American Idol it will be great. They have raised the age limit and there is more viewer involvement in who gets to the final 12 and its just much more fun.

There is too much focus on the judges in X Factor and not enough on the talent. Everyone just votes for the MacDonald Bro's because Simon is mean to them, not because they have any discernible talent.

I think Pop Idol was fairer to the contestants as X Factor places to much emphasis on the judges even though it is entertaining.

i'm uncertain approximately that one. i won't be able to bear in innovations if it grew to become into better or not yet Pop Idol looked very such as me as X ingredient. aside from Leona Lewis, Will youthful and girls folk Aloud (have been they the two from Pop Idol?) look the only ones rising from this television format that have long previous directly to do properly. even though occurred to Michelle McManus and One authentic Voice?

Neither.

Both produce manufactured pop wannabe's with little passion for the music, no ablilty to stay famous and no respect for the fans. They all want to be famous in any way possible. They don't care about the music.

If they want to be truly respected, they need to write their own music (originals, not covers) and start at the bottom, working in live band bars etc, not the fast track route of getting on TV and being famous for 5 mins.

If they start from the bottom, they will make it to the limelight by relying on the fans, not relying on judges and tv crowds. They will then be respected by the fans, and will therefore be humble in front of them, thanking them and performing for them, not for the money.

Manufactured pop and reality TV is exactly what is bringing the entertainment industry to it's knees.
