It is hard to know if they value them better. Probably . England are Ireland health workers are treated so badly. It's a disgrace. I think that we're more knowledgeable and ahead in our ideas of healthcare more than Europe are and they probably learned alot from you and you got the award for that reason moreso. I worked as a nurse in France for a few years.I found them quite behind and some of the specialists told me that Ireland and UK are miles ahead of continental europe in care.Well done.

Congratulations!
It sounds like the supervisors there value input from others and will reward good ideas.
It's so much different here in the US. My supervisors know EVERYTHING. If anybody has a suggestion they are belittled and almost told outright that they are the biggest idiot on the face of the planet. Then these know-it-alls implement these suggestions as their own ideas.
I came up with a better way for my department's inventory control. I did like a coworker suggested and just started using it, so did everybody else. Our supervisor blustered and predicted dire consequences, but he didn't make us change it back. A few years later we were discussing our inventory method and his exact words were, "I know there are better ways to do it, but this was the best way I could come up with at the time."

Other countries in Western Europe certainly value their health service more than we do. We have a cheapskate health service, mainly because people don't want to pay enough tax to get a decent one. The main way of saving money is by paying the workers peanuts.
We're not the worst. In the US, health is for the rich. If you're poor you die (or get Medicare which is the same thing).

no it doesn't...... what it means is they value their international relations more then their workers... (did any of the lads you worked with in Belgium also get an award from Belgium?) i know that the UK / England do the same when people visit hear, on a fairly high profile trip....
Taking nothing away from you though......... well done

To my ears, it sounds like you were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time saying the right thing. If I were you, I would focus on the positive aspect of receiving an award, instead of any unproven negative inferences. The glass really is half full, after all. Congratulations, btw!!

Don't be quick to judge. You will ruin your own motivation. It may be a coincidence that you met with the right people. I'm sure there are very many underappreciated workers in Belgium, as well as appreciated ones in your own country. Maybe it is just that your circle of colleagues and bosses don't know how to show appreciation.
