RSS as a document isn't meant to be viewed, the RSS document is a simple 'standardized' format, which allows an RSS feed reader to parse the document, to which you receive a subject to the item, a link to the item and a short description, those are the most common included in the feed, there are numerous others.

You can find a whole list of RSS readers here : http://www.rssformat.com

The simplest RSS feed could resemble this:

Feed title
http://feed-link.com
Feed description

Feed item title1
Feed item link1
Feed item description1

Feed item title2
Feed item link2
Feed item description2

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication

Its a way for blogs etc ... to tell people about whats new on their site.

Its usually XML and understood mostly by RSS feed readers. You can try online variants such as Google Reader or Bloglines.

if you're trying to fix your site.. try to use premade layouts... it's the easiest... and always try to work on SAFE MODE and never ever save unless you're happy with how your site looks....
