Democratic. In a republic you have very little say in the laws that are passed and repealed, and the only things you basically vote on are the representatives. A federal government takes power away from the states and by extension the people, and as such is an unwanted unitary force. A democratic government means that the people vote on passing, amending, and repealing laws. For an example of the one true democracy on this planet, take a look at Switzerland.

Better cannot be answered in a manner that is correct or false, you are asking for an opinion. A federal system in which there is a central government and other autonomous governments of the regions. The United States has a federal system, the central government is made up of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. Each state has its own government which is fairly autonomous. The United States is also an example of a Republic, which is to say that citizens do not directly govern themselves, they elect representatives to govern for them. Lastly, the term Democratic gets you in a little trouble. The way that they word is thrown around in the press simply means any government in which people have some basic freedoms, and the right to vote. However, a democracy is a form of government in which citizens directly participate in their government. The classic example of a true democracy is Greece, and later Rome. The word democracy is actually made up of two Greek words which mean "people" and "to rule". It has been fairly widely accepted that a true style of democracy will not work on a large scale such as in the countries of the modern day.

You can have all three. The Federal Republic of Germany is federal, a republic and has been democratic since 1945.
A federal country has two or more layers of government, each with different responsibilities, law making powers and other legal identities. Examples include the US, Canada, Australia, Germany and India.
A republic means any country where the supreme head is appointed by parliament or voted by the public.
A democracy is a country where the public chooses the government, people have the right to vie for power through political concensus, there are safeguards to protect human and civil rights, and minority rights are protected.

There is no "better" government. All have thier pros and cons. I mean you can have a Monarch and have the best country in the world!
It just all depends on the people in power.. but to be pragmatic, the best would be one that has a democratic system in it!

i am hoping since we have a more balanced power in our government that this is the way to go.it might have even been better if the Republicans would have won the senate so it would be more balanced.but anyway let's hope we as Americans are right.
