My RAM at the moment is 224MB and i have 2 Ram cards(?) from my old PC (they are about an inch high and 4 inches long).
Can i put one of them into my new computer to up the RAM without having to do anything else or do i need software?
I was told they may not be compatible with my new PC?
I'm ok with computers but i'm not sure about this... So any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check out www.crucial.com you can run a scan of your system to find out what you need, even is you don't buy from them it will give you an idea of whats required and as you are computer savvy you can go to your local store to purchase what you need. Also gives info on installation etc great site
Hope this helps

Sadly RAM isnt that easy, you do not need any software. Although you may not have compatible ram, ram runs at differants speeds, and all the ram in any pc must be the same speed (otherwise you end up with a blue screen of death every time you boot your pc). There may be a sticker on the ram stating the speed, if this is the case of the current ram in your pc and stick you want to put in see if they match. You can put the ram in and try it out, and if you get the BlueScreenOfDeath, take the ram you just put in out(after you turn off your pc). This means they are not compatible. But if it runs fine, keep it in.

You possibly can.Does your new PC take the same type RAM as your old one?You cannot use DDR in place of SDRAM,if this is your situation. Also, the frequencies are different on RAM,so be sure to check all of this.Oh,and yes, there are also compatibility issues and OEM propriority problems that you might encounter. In other words, the motherboard may not like the RAM and/or other hardware conflicts could arise. No, software is not an issue here.First,Read on the sticks to see what is printed on them.If it is the same as what your new PC uses, then you might be in luck.Click Start, control panel, system. It will show the memory installed,if not, shut down computer, pull power, remove side panel, pull out memory sticks, read on them what the label says.

Ok the memory cards u are describing do just slot into the pc itself. You dont need to buy any software to make this happen, Just open the back of the pc and look for one of these. See my link to help u find it/

There are many types of RAM , and nothing to do with high or long .. For example SD-RAM and DDRAM , are the same high and the same long but DDR are neewer than SDRAM , so try to read the posters on the RAM if they are the same it's okay to plug it with the other one ...
And no you don't need any software ( anyway as I know )

depends what typr RAM your old computer had.
if the old PC is a few years old then its unlikely the RAM will be transferrable.
your best bet is just buying some new RAM. a 1GB piece should keep you going for a while

you have to find out what speed the new computer requires the RAM to be, and what speed your old RAM stick is.

If theyre both the same speed PC133, 2700, 3200, etc, then they will work fine

All you have to do is snap it into place and restart your machine

If theyre not, then youre out of luck

I REALLY WISH PEOPLE STARTED INPUTTING what model computer they had so we can help them better.
Hey people....just say I have an HP5400..look on the tower and we can help you better
