According to my trusty garden book, the distance should be about 50 feet.
1. Shade from the tree can cause the edge of the pitch/field to thin due to lack of sunlight.
2. The trees and the grass will fight for water during a drought.
3. If you have a watering system, its possible the tree could drown. Trees require far less surface water than grass does.
4. Some trees have large, invasive roots that grow along the surface and can cause tripping for players on the field. Cherries and some Maples are particularly bad about this.
5. Trees can drop nuts that will roll when stepped on causing players to twist ankles if they step on them.
