Absolutely. Being an African American myself I know the lack of information that African American people have about themselves and their history. There is no depth of history for a people such as us, whose history has been largely stolen by the ravages of slavery. So many of us need to learn our history not as just a component of a general history course, but as a direct outreach to the black community. A seedling cannot grow in such shallow soil as we are asked to.

No, because I think it should be included in the regular curriculum. African American history is an important part of American history and all Americans need to know, not just African Americans

I went to an all white school. It was literally 97% white. The only time we studied that one little chapter about African American history was during Black History month. And even then the teacher didn't even teach it, he just said to look it over if you want. Here in Tulsa, Oklahoma we have to take a full semester of Oklahoma history which was all about Native Americans. I'm not asking for all that, but at least teach it.

Yes and no.
I think the same history should be taught to everybody in a country but that history should include some of the older cultures like the abisinians and where they were from.
American history should include great americans whatever there background and pretty well has to cover slavery.

Do you want to sit through a semester of WHITE AMERICAN HISTORY, followed by LATINO American history and a semester of Black American history. About a class on rap of the early 21st Century, as a separate course to Music Appreciation; makes about as much sense.
How about just American History, teaching you history.

yes if it is black school and no if it is a mixed school but students at the same mix school should be given the chance to have history class that delas with their own culture but they won't take it until they have completed other history class that deals with all history from different culture and religion
for example in my high school, i was not allowed to take afro history untill i have completed the regular history class
