I have typed into the calculator and it is the decimal remaining after .96 that is confusing to me, that's want I needed explained in regards to which is larger.

I think the easiest way to deal with this,
is to subtract one fraction from the other,
on your calculator,
and it doesn't matter which order you do it in.
If the answer is less than zero,
then the second fraction is the larger.
If the answer is greater than zero,
then the first fraction is the larger.
If the answer is equal to zero,
then the fractions are equal.
As long as you are aware of the
limitations of the calculator.
Now try it.
24/25 - 25/26 = - 0.00153846,
which is < 0, so 2nd fraction is larger.
25/26 - 24/25 = 0.00153846,
which is > 0, so 1st fraction is larger.
In either case then, 25/26 is the larger.

Think of it this way. Which is bigger? 1/2 or 2/3?
The 25/26 is only 1/26 less than 1, where the 24/25 is 1/25 less than 1. Because the 25/26 is closer to 1 than the 24/25 we know it is bigger.

Type it into a calculator
24/25=0.96
25/26=0.961538.....
If you make it into percentages -
24/25=96% and 25/26=96.15% which is bigger.
OR
24/25 = 9/10 + 6/100
and
25/26 = 9/10 + 6/100 + 1/1000 + 5/10000 + 3/100000

24/25 is smaller, because it is 1/25 away from complete while the other fraction is 1/26 away from becoming complete. Being closer to the "whole" means 25/26 is the larger fraction.

reason 24* 26 = (25-1)(25+1) = 25^2 -1 < 25^2
so devide by 26* 25 on both sides and you get the result
I update based on your additional information
24/25 = .9600 (is same as .9600) or 960/1000
25/26 = .9615 or 961/1000
1st 2 digits of both are same and 3d digit of 25/26 > 24/15 so 2nd
number is larger(multiply both by 1000 and find out)

24x26 = 624 for 24/25
25x25 = 675 for 25/26
25/26 is larger
