She's giving supplemental feedings with a little soft cup, kind of like what comes with Pepto Bismol, instead of using a baby bottle. This will help her avoid nipple confusion. (Nursing at the breast and eating from a bottle use totally different mechanics.)

Feeding the baby from a cup instead of a bottle. Maybe the baby gets milk up its nose and causes upper respitory infection.

Its a pro breastfeeding method. When low birth weight babies are too young or underweight to feed fully from the breast, they must be given additional feed by another method. when a newborn baby feeds their mouth becomes shaped appropriately so that they can suckle. if artificial teats are used ie from a bottle their mouth becomes that shape so if mum wants to eventualy breastfeed fully it is not recomended to use any artificial teats or dummies/pacifiers as it will be ioncreasingly difficult to get them to latch on as the breast's nipple is a different shape to a bottle teat. so CUP FEEdING is when the baby is allowed to receive fluid from the rim of the cup touching their lips thus preventing their mouth becomming accustomed to a teat shape.

it's exactly what it sounds like - you feed the baby from a cup, instead of a bottle. Some babies start from birth this way for various reasons, and never once have a bottle.
