I am 22 weeks pregnant and I am getting really sore nipples. They started leaking today and after leaking they felt heaps better, It happened again tonight and I got some out. I am just wondering if it is better to get it out when it hurts or whether to try and leave it?

I'd suggest getting some Lansinoh cream to rub on your nipples. This may help with the tenderness and it is safe to leave on postpartum while nursing. Will help to prevent dry, cracked nipples and heal you if you do get an injured nipple.

Expressing a few drops of colostrum is not going to put you into labor. You need at least 20 minutes of serious nipple stimulation to cause contractions.

If you feel better, then squeeze it out. It should be ok since you are 22 weeks. Be aware that nipple stimulation can cause contractions. I am not talking labor contractions, just what could feel like light cramping. I would definately talk to my doctor about this at the next visit. I am sure everything is fine and completely normal, but it is good to be on the safe side.

Whatever makes you feel most comfortable is what you should do. The majority of women don't leak during pregnancy, but some do. (I did!) It's normal either way. Whether or not you leave it or get it out won't make a bit of difference when you start to breastfeed or with your pregnancy, so there's nothing to worry about. :o)

Make yourself as comfortable as possible! Pregnancy is hard enough as it is. :o)

Good luck, and congratulations on your little one!

Sore nipples during pregnancy are normal due to hormonal changes. Most women experience this.

The discharge is known as pre-milk. During your second trimester your breasts will begin to produce colostrum. Colostrum appears thick and yellow at first, and as birth draws near, it becomes pale and almost colorless.

i've read that pinching nipples releases a hormone that causes contractions. You might want to talk to your OB/GYN.

After you have your baby, your breast hurt more. Hang in there! If I can do it, you can too.
