They have definite benefits and some drawbacks. You need to learn how to work on scenes, and develop timing. Voice work is critical. Sometimes, the environment can be competitive and not supportive of fellow artists. If you want to be an actor, though, you get to work on your craft full-time. Some sort of training is necessary. Good luck.

I think every answer is right, and sort of asying the same thing. Yes, it depends on the school in question. Lots of places set themselves as 'acting schools' and charge a lot of money. Check prospectus and try to find out from previous students what it's like. Most reputable schools are very proud of their past pupils and will supply a list of those doing well. If you don't like the actors on that list, or indeed, you've never heard of them, then that's not the schoolfor you. Talent is one thing, nurture is EVERYTHING. yes, you need to train. It is very important. And lastly, completing a course abd a reputable school is a very good 'in' to the buisness. Agents, producer's etc will come and see your showings and that is a good place to get picked up.It is such a competitive proffession that you are at a disadvantage if you don't get a training. x

It absolutely depends on the school. I know a lot of people think that acting depends on tallent, but tallent is only one part of the damn job. It takes a lot of effort and skills to be a good actor. Tallent can help, but I've seen really tallented actors turn to disaster because they don't know how to use their gifts.
As an idea, acting schools are good.
Some realizations are pretty bad, though.
