APA style guide refers to how you should cite sources you are using in your text.

As you are writing a paper, you rely on other sources for ideas and evidence of your claims. When you mention content from other sources, you must give reference to the source of your comments. You use the APA style guide to figure out the layout of your references to books, articles, electronic documents (e.g. a Web page).

It's a commonly used formatting system, predominately in the social sciences (as it's established by the American Psychological Association. It gives specific guidelines about how papers are to be structured, and how information is supposed to be cited (as you must credit others if you use their information or ideas). Purdue's writing lab also has a good website that covers some APA basics. It can be found at http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
