It depends on how important that area was to the the governments operating the satellites as to how close (high-resolution) they shot.

Some places are still blurry but others are crystal clear (almost to the point of being able to read number plates).
On Google Earths Q + A it says they are in the process of getting it all clearer but it's going to take a long time.

Yes, in some areas it is like that. There is a newer version in Microsoft. It is called Virtual Earth. type in virtual earth in search and there is sites to visit. It is very good and detailed. It zooms into the buildings. But it is a new site so not all areas are there yet and not all are zoomed in as close as others. Zoom in to Las Vegas, Nevada and you will see what I mean. It is close shots.

I had the same problem apparently not all areas are covered google are slowly adding images and will eventually cover the entire globe, my problem was with Cheltenham UK tried virtual earth on MSN (www.local.live.com ) very similar programme and image was fine but could not get a decent image of other places of interest to me which were great on Google so will carry on going between the two until complete coverage is available.

At its closest setting it will get blurry simply because of the zoom capabilities of the satellite(s) they used. A good video card cant prevent this to some point.

some areas of the earth have not been put in fully on google earth if you zoom in somewhere like london you will have a very good photo but elsewhere it is higher altitude and less detail but maybe in the future they will add detail everywhere else too

It depends where you are looking at. Major cities are more pixeled so you can zoom right up to them, while places with not too many people or it is not very popular then it is not highly pixeled making it blurry.

some areas are more clear than others when you zoom in. But since they are just photos, zooming in will eventually lead to blurry pictures everywhere.
its supposed to be like that

aye it is not brilliant, however if you go to windows live beta, you can zoom in to 25yards above anyhouse, anywhere and it is not blurry , it is free just like google earth just a lot better as you can choose N,E.S.W aerial views etc.. try it!

Some parts of the earth are in amazing resolution, other places are not.
The satellites have not yet pictured the entire globe in high resolution.
