I do it too. For some weird reason I think the bread is fresher the further down it is. I am so glad to hear I am not the only one that does that. My boyfriend thinks I am crazy.

I do it too for the simple reason that the slices are fresher there . If you want your bread to stay fresher longer, do like I do and press out all the air out as much as you can, then close it immediately! It can last 2-3 days longer with less air in it!

Must be. I thought I was the only one. Except I think my kid does it too, which means that who knows who is Really getting the fresh bread. Hell, the fresh bread could be the first, last, or middle piece after all the rearranging that goes on.

I do...
when i was younger I did it because I thought they were fresher.
now I do it to leave the heal and another slice on the end so the loaf stays fresh longer.

The first couple of slices tend to dry out so most people just learn to do that.

I will avoid the heels of bread, unless I want toast, then I seek the heels out so I get nice crunchy toast.

Yes I do. I think mainly because I don't like crust. I always take the crust off from my bread, and further down has little crust on it.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
You do that, too? WHEW!! Thank goodness...

Not sure if it's instinct...it makes no sense to me.

I LOVE the end parts of brownies; but can't stand to have the 'heels' of bread, or anything close to that.
Go figure...
