Just try to blend in with everybody else. Most crime in Manila is petty
crime. People trying to snatch your wallet, sell you a rolex, steal your
cell phone, etc. Stay in well lit areas.. have some street smarts.
Also, don't put your wallet in your back pocket.. or it will be gone.

I've been there many times and I haven't had one bad experience yet.
As long as you stay on your toes, you'll be okay. Also, its best to have
a little extra cash outside of your wallet, so if you need something on
the street.. then you can buy it without taking out your wallet and then
running the risk that somebody will snatch it and run away.

Manila is not dangerous although there are some snatchers, holdappers and gangsters. Just be very careful since you are a foreigner. Don't trust a person in just two or three meetings. Use you instincts, your sixth sense. Also, don't simply take the kindness and hospitality of someone you will meet at face value, or else......

You can find danger everywhere. Even in your own house. Well there are some places in Manila where crime rate is high. Just be careful and nothing will happen to you. Dont make it too obvious that you are rich. OK?

I had graduated from the University of Santo Tomas which is located in Manila, Philippines. I used to be wearing necklace, bracelets & earrings. However, when I learned about how notorious some people are, I didnt wear one until I graduated & I was safe. I had 2 cousins who also studied in UST who had lost their jewelry, usually snatched from them. She even run after the child who took it, but it had already been passed to somebody. My other cousin had his bracelet taken by people who wore descent clothes! Everywhere in the world, there will be pickpocketeers, carnappers etc. Just be careful! Dont be showy. Dont wear expensive jewelries in the streets of Manila. Dont display your cellphone everywhere. Robbers here are notorious, you wont notice that they had already taken your wallet & cellphone. Be careful!!

MANILA IS PROBABLY NO MORE DANGEROUS THAN ANY OTHER BIG CITY IN THE WORLD.
SOME PRECAUTIONS ARE NEEDED THOUGH:
KEEP JEWELLERY TO A MINIMUM,
DON'T FLASH YOUR MONEY AROUND,
IF USING TAXIS KEEP THE DOOR LOCKED AND TRY NOT TO TRAVEL AT NIGHT BY YOURSELF.

Crimewise, I'm sure its not as dangerous as St. Louis or Detroit. But the smog there is toxic, getting close to dangerous to your health.

Generally speaking no, it is not dangerous. The Philippines in general is much safer than the USA.
