I lay there and relax by watching a "movie" i make up in my imagination. I guess i write terrible movies, because this always puts me right to sleep.

depends on how I'm feeling. If my mind is racing with thoughts, then I'll get up and try to get them out. If I'm tired but just have trouble falling asleep, I'll lay there trying to relax. Last night, I had a bad time of it, tons of thoughts racing through my head and I was really tired (5AM!!!! T_T) and so I went out of my room (I live in a residence hall) into the lounge with my pencil and pad, wrote some lines about what was going through my head, then reasoned with myself, then went back inside, put on some soothing music I haven't listened to in about 5 years, and was asleep pretty soon! first time I've been able to fall asleep to music in like, 5-7 years... o_o

I am an expert with 20 years of experience. I have been to all kind of therapist and health workers who attempted so many things to help me sleep, but sleep don't come. I lay for 1/2 hr. to 2 hours singing songs in my head, praying, doing all kinds of things in my mind and I give up and get up. I sleep only 1/2hr. to 3hrs. at a time. My neighbor has Chronic Fatigue/Fibromyalgia as I do, she went to the Sleep Clinic and was given a mask to wear to bed. Go to your doctor and if he cannot help, Go to a sleep clinic. Do not take drugs that make you feel foggy, light headed, dizzy or make your equilibrium off so that you stagger and fall. Keep in touch with pharmacist.

For me, reading. Computer and TV provide too much eye stimulation. Getting up and walking around can help. But, I always find reading to be the best relaxer.

If I think there's a slight chance I'll fall asleep I'll try to lay there and empty my mind, otherwise I'll get up and eat something, that will usually push me over the edge.

I try to lay there but if that doesn't work after a while, then I grab a book to read and eventually I fall asleep.

Some people find that drinking a cold glass of milk or a cup of hot decaf tea helps. You might also try reading or watching t.v. until you fall asleep. Try to clear your mind. Sometimes if we have a lot on our mind, we'll have trouble falling and/or staying asleep. If none of this helps, you might suffer from insomnia. You should talk to your doctor. He or she can probably give you prescripioned pills. I used to take Ambien.
