WOW, this is gonna be hard to give a best answer too.

I will def listen to Ingvie Malsteen (however it's spelled LOL)

I did forget the two YES guys, I agree. I love Chris Squire, his Fish out of Water CD is great.

I have a Michael Schenker CD, but I just can't get past his vocals. I'll try listenin again. Leif is good, two of my fav songs are the Trees and Villa la Strangiato.

Is McGlaughlin jazz? I'm not a big fan of jazz, too frenetic for me. I think I'll just take your word for it. :)

Hey, I just remembered another:

Al Dimeola (jazz)
Keep watchin this post, I may forego the 3 pnts and let you guys pick best answer.

For those not familiar with keaggy, shame on ya! LOL
Here are "must have" CD's by him:

Premium Jams (dbl Cd rock/blues)
220 (rock/blues)
Master and the Musician (classical)
Zion (blues/rock)
Freehand (acoustic)
Crimson and Blue (the best Christian/spiritual rock CD EVER)

all these are intrumental CD except Crimson

that pretty much racks my brain - I can't say I like all these guys but they all make some kind of contribution to the instrument

HOW can you call yourself a true snob if you've only barely got any prog rockers on the list??! ;)

STEVE HOWE & Chris Squire of Yes.

Now there go 2 highbrow virtuosos!

As for your list:

1 hendrix YES!
2 trey anastasio Yes
3 phil keaggy the name is fvaguely familiar
4 eric clapton Yes
5 stevie ray vaughn Yes
6 jimmy page Hmm, I love him, but many guitarists are well aware he's a pretty sloppy player. Inventive as hell, but a bit sloppy. Though for straight on rock, that's ok.
7 segovia (classical) Yes
8 leo kottke (12 string) Yes (& Ledbelly)
9 jeff beck Yes
10 joe satriani Yes

Well no offense however you are being snobbish within the asking of your possess query.? You essentially mentioned that something no longer within the charts is dangerous tune! Lol, umm there is classical tune, jazz and so on either one of which take a lot more paintings and dedication to rise up to general (should you play them of path) so who're you to Say what well tune is? I imply I do believe you on thr relaxation of your query... its simply that side that bugged me somewhat... :) well good fortune with them anyhow
