I am a Fiipino-American & chosed to stay here all my life. I had stayed only in US for 6 months. USA is nice but definitely its beauty is only superficial since I longed for my family who are based here.
Most Filipinos work hard in the US earlier in their life like my dad. However, they stay here in the Philippines when they retire. Life here is simple. However, I had seen the advantage of staying in the US if you are disabled & mentally retarded. Disabled are given due respect. They are prioritized, given parking lots near the establishments, allowed to take the bus, cross the street with people waiting on them. Here in the Philippines, the disadvantage is that when you cross the street & you are disabled, only few will respect you. It is hard to commute here once you are disabled, the buses arent equipped to have a disabled ride. However, in the LRT or MRT, our railway transits, they are already given priority. They stay in front.
The advantage here is that the Filipinos are closely knit family & they take care of their elders when they get sick. However, the caretaker usually suffer the chronic fatigue syndrome. Not everybody will be able to afford a private nurse.

If you speak of terrorism, for several decades England has been a target of the IRA and now these extremists, so with the United States. Unless you go to countries who does not support American and British interest like Iran, Syria or North Korea, there will always be a threat of terrorism. It is sometimes unfair that the United States and other western countries places travel advisory on the Philippines but does not make any "significant" advisory on Israel where people are being blow into pieces almost every week.

I've been living in Manila for 2 years. Over the past 15 years I have lived in several countries in Europe, Africa, and North America. The Philippines is the best place I ever lived, and I would love to stay here permanently pending adequate employment.

The Philippines I hear are very nice and you can live there very cheap. You can live with servants with a reasonable pension. I don't speak Spanish or I would consider going. I think it is important to speak the language.

I went to college there and would definitely live there. Never felt threatened in any way whatsoever! You'd be surprised how friendly and accommodating the people are. Ever seen the movie Doc Hollywood? That was me (as MJF) but I left for greener pasteurs, now I realize having the American Dream is nothing compared to living in a country where you are welcome and appreciated.

It's way too hot for me and not too many obvious parks with hiking trails, although I really didn't talk to anyone or pursue finding some.
