If a woman can prove that she can stand up to some huge guy running at her clutching his balls ((excuse the pun)), then I think that she should be allowed to play football with the guys too.
Granted, there are not many that can, but if there were, I would fully support mixed football teams.
The only trouble you would have is the claims that male players would take it easy on the girls because they are percieved as 'weaker.' Hell, my 6 year old daughter has managed to flatten me into the ground, and she never even hit me in the groin, so she'd probably make a great boxer. Makes me cringe just thinking about it.
But as long as they understand the game, can handle the pressure, and handle the physical nature of it, then sure.
A referee would be a good start for women, or perhaps even as a field goal kicker to 'minimise the chance that they'll get hurt' as critics would put it.
I think men are just too afraid of getting completely decked by a woman and having her 'encroach on their territory' because they know that there will be a large amount of new rules to abide by if they let women into the game.
Personally I'm proud of the fact that my 6 year old, deaf daughter can deck me, and i hope that she uses that ability to her advantage one day.
And if I was ever in a football team, I'd welcome the introduction of women to the sport, even if they had to go undercover and pretend that they were men.

Obviously to a misogynist, the answer will be yes. Women's football is well recognised and growing. Maybe there will be professional women's football soon? Men referee the women's game, why should women not referree the men's? As long as the job is done properly, justly, and the referee is fit - what on earth does the referee's sex have to do with their ability?
And to UK Davros - women play rugby football too, didn't you know?

Yes it is a mans game(I like to see woman playing football) but when it comes to refereeing the game woman should be allowed, we want to see competent Ref's in football and it's got nothing to do with the sexes.!!!

NO, it may have a larger portion of audience. you'll see lots of single men rooting, but now days, you can see a husband and wife with their two young children enjoying the game. The wife loves it, the kids love it. There are groups of woment that go to the game together. It would seem that some of those hot men out there would want some potential girlfriend who also loves the game. A guy and gal meet at the game, have a drink together later, start dating.. and before you know it, you are selling more and more tickets than ever!

Rugby is a man's Game
Soccer is a big girls game
Why shouldnt Women be allowed to do it.
I have no problem with equal rights etc, but some women go over the top. The number of bad looks I get when I hold a door open. Maybe I should let it slam in thier face in future

What a ridiculous question!
It's 2006 and there no need for exclusion of ANY KIND based on gender.
I'm sure numerous of the people who organise these games are females, i'm sure a lot of the players would not be there if it wasn't for support offered by mothers, wives and sisters.... Not to mention the obvious fact that many females are interested in watching football and perhaps playing...
Exclusively male? I think not...

a female ref might get intimidated by the players losing thier tempers after she makes a sh!t descision. It could lead to a hell of a lot of players getting slammed by the media for aggressive/threatening behaviour towards a woman
