Mr. Sprout built a fence around his garden so it formed a square with ten fence posts on each side. How many fence posts did he need?

There are four sides with 10 on each:
4 x 10 = 40

The four corners are each counted twice, so subtract them so they're counted a total of once:
40-4=36

The answer, then, is 36.

36 (assuming there is a fence post on each corner)

10 on right side, 10 on left. so there are already 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom, so he just need 16 more

Obviously 36, but inorder enter into the fence,one post is to be removed,I think so

Maybe he didn't have any posts at the corners. Maybe he had ten posts on each side with none shared.

10 on north side
10 on south side
8 on west side
8 and east side
= 36
8 because the west and east side share 2 posts from north and south
