I sure have a lot of questions don't I? lol I was wondering in what order do things happen in labor? Like loosing your mucus plug, contractions, and you water breaking. I was just wondering what order things happen in because I never completly understood. I am a bit scared about labor even though I won't go into labor until around April so I figured the more informed I am the more comfortable I will feel about it. Thanks!

Actually, the things you mention can occur in any order.Your mucus plug could loose as your water breaks, and your contractions not start for another day (this is a dangerous situation, but it happens). You usually will lose the mucus plug from a week to a few hours before labor starts Your waters may not break until after your contractions start, or they may break before theys start. I lost my plug once, two weeks b4, and it grew back and dislodged again twice more. I had mild back labor for about 4 hrs, then my waters broke and the contractions began in earnest. Oh, did I mention I was 3cm dilated and 100% effaced for TWO WEEKS before my son was born???

Basically, it is different for everyone. A couple of good books to look for are: "What to Expect When You're Expecting", by Heidi Murkoff, et al.; and "your Pregnancy, Week By Week", by Dr Glade Curtis.

Sometimes women can go bassackwards on things. I was contracting way before I lost my mucous plug.

Most generally, you will start with braxton hicks. Then usually the mucus plug goes, then the contractions start in, and then your water breaks. But things can take their time, and not come in an orderly fashion.

Babycenter dot com has great resources about labor and what it is like. That is where I learned a lot of my labor stuff with.

If I leave you with any good advise, it would be this:

BREATHE during your contractions. Get a focal point, and when you feel the contraction start up, breathe in slowly, stare at your focal point, and breathe out slowly. Repeat until the contraction is over, then rest. Also, this is going to sound so weird but it is true: The more you scream from the pain, the worse the pain is going to be. That's why I said breathe.

I went 14 hours with an induced labor (which is 20 times worse than a natural labor) without any pain meds, contractions were coming 30 seconds apart, lasting 1 minute each, and I only screamed twice, and that's when I learned that the breathing technique works wonders and screaming makes it worse.

It just depends on your body...
I have seen someone that her water broke on its own and she was not in labor had to be forced into productive labor. I was in labor for 2 days before my water was broke ( i dont think it would have ever did it on its own) I've also seen it with a lil bit of labor pains then the water breaks a few storng contractions and boom a baby.... quick as anything I only with I could have it like that.

Hope hearing from all the women here will help ease your worries. Just remember we only can tell you what we went through. Everyone is different , good luck....

I could wait to inform folks till after the youngster is born except you realize a few near folks like your mom who you suppose you could inform and he or she could cross and inform all people else. I myself would not just like the concept of getting folks simply sitting within the ready room for you as it's going to play to your brain a little bit figuring out there's a bunch of folks WAITING on you, regularly the pressure of figuring out that would inhibit and gradual down labour. Your ought to be headquartered and centered and not using a issues approximately some thing or anybody else. Also i suggestion i could upload that although you can also now not desire your mom (or anybody practically you) within the supply room it should very good difference at the same time you're within the warmth of labour and you can also quite desire your mom. So if she lives a even as away then possibly it could be a well concept to inform her...additionally having 2 help folks is exceptional as mainly the midwife will simply be coming out and in and now not serving to a lot but additionally the help a girl can deliver can also be a lot bigger than your husband and in addition figuring out that your mom has long past by way of the identical factor is helping so that you can attach extra and permit her reassure you bigger in the course of labour AND additionally having 2 folks is exceptional as you can actually have a holiday each and every every now and then (exceptionally if you're in need of steady again strain/therapeutic massage or whatever an identical) or 2 folks (one among each and every aspect) to help you in a few positions for labour.

I think you should go to la maz classes. They are very informative. Also, there are usually labor and delivery nurses in the maternity ward of your hospital that are usually pretty understanding and willing to explain things.'

Also, maybe try a bookstore or library. Maybe you can find an informative book to get the whole, accurate picture. many women have different labor experiences and want to tell you how "their labor was" but we are all different. It's best to find a book, or another reliable source to tell you all of the facts.

Good luck!

your show comes from the contractions opening up your cervix, but you may not nnotice them yet. your show blocks the cervix from your vagina, so for your waters to break there had to of been a show.

aparantly only 15% of waters break w/o feeling contractions, but mine broke while i had period pain, i was still in denail about being in labour, i didnt even take my hospital bags. lol

dont be scared, i had a drugg free labour, only lasted 6hours. the contractions are not to bad, the bit that hurts is teh babies head coming, but overall its the most memorable experince of my life. i cant wait for my next child. good luck with the baby
