Big names in football crowd jerseys

Can you imagine the nightmares Cincinnati announcers would have if Roethlisberger were traded to the Bengals and started throwing passes to wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh? That name, too, has 14 letters, and together they win the NFL name game -- but not by much.

No fewer than 27 players on current rosters have 11 or more letters in their last name, with San Diego winning the Super Bowl of monikers. If you're looking to practice your elocution, try these Chargers on for size: Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, Cory Lekkerkerker, Scott Mruczkowski and former St. Louisan Brandon Manumaleuna.

Of course, the Rams are no slouches when it comes to long names, although they are far easier to pronounce: Taylor Stubblefield, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Will Witherspoon.

Others who likely would make an all-Madden name team of at least a dozen letters: Willie Middlebrooks (Denver); Kimo Von Oelhoffen (Jets); Brad Lekkerkerker (Oakland); Kyle Vanden Bosch (Tennessee); Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (Green Bay); Brandon Pinderhughes (Philly); Chris Hetherington (49ers); and Brian Simnjanovski (Bucs).

As for letter limits, NFL spokesman Matt Hill says the league has no rules. Instead, players work out any problems with their team equipment managers. You can always make the type smaller to fit more letters, so you might want to take a pair of binoculars to the game. However, if you try to buy your own custom jersey fromnflstore.com, you will be limited to a dozen.

I remember when Jack Youngblood and Joel Youngblood both played for the L.A. Rams and had their first names squeezed in between the jersey collar and the top of their last name.
