Hello Sayak,
Well the cats surely were not the animals that were allowed inside Roman temples because it was considered ill omen and even in the Tom and Jerry show they have depicted Tom thrown out of it.Well it is the horse and the dove with regard to pegasus and the demi-god Achellies.

No Idea.. I know in Egypt it was cats ....Might have been the one they were sacrificing at the time, maybe? Man I am stumped and I am the history buff in the family.. Going off to look in a book to see if I can find the answer
