My family needs to go to Germany, and I have no idea how to get us passports. My kids are both six (yes, twins), if that helps. What government agency to I go to? How long does it take before I will have it in my hands? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!

Your travel agent should be able to help you with this but in my case, I went to the local Post Office where you can get a passport application. You then look in the Yellow Pages for photographers/photography studios that take passport photos (they have to be a certain size so make sure you get specifically "passport photos"). You need two photos. Then you need to go to the City Hall or Town Hall of your birth place (or call or write them if you no longer live nearby) and ask for a sealed LONG-FORM birth certificate. There are also fees involved so you will need to look on the application for current fees and to whom to make out the check. Submit all of this back to the post office (or mail it to the address on the application) and your pasport will be mailed to you.

If you need to obtain visas you will then need to contact the consulate or embassy of the country you are traveling to (most are located in New York or Washington DC) and ask for a visa application. Fill out the visa application and mail it (plus another fee), along with your passport, to the consulate or embassy. They will affix a visa inside your passport and mail it back to you.

As you can imagine, this is a lengthy process (several months)so I would advise doing all of this far in advance of your travel date. You can potentially speed up the process if there is a passport issuing agency in a nearby town where you can go to directly apply for a passport. In my case, there was one in Boston. You can look on the State Dept. website to find other locations.

I'm have been researching recently as I am needing to get a passport as well. There are various places to get a passport but I believe the most popular would be your local post office. They have the forms and can provide instruction on obtaining a passport. Eight weeks is the normal turn around time but one can pay more to receive quicker. I have also provided a website with more information. GOOD LUCK!

You need to go to your local court house and ask for the prothonotary's office. Make sure you bring passport photos (which you can get at AAA offices, the post office, drug stores, ect), birth certificates, social security cards, and any other form of ID you have for you and your family. Also, bring your check book! There is a fee and you must pay it by check or money order.

Once you get all of the paperwork squared away, it takes a month or two to get your passports.

forget approximately any six month rule. some countries do require a passport of a customer to proceed to be valid previous a proposed stay, in some situations by potential of six months, yet there is no everyday rule. in spite of everything, that basically applies to foreigners; you're neither a foreigner interior the U. S. nor in Australia. you're basically meant to have a valid Australian passport whilst entering into or exiting Australia and a valid US passport whilst entering into or exiting the U. S.. you need to use any of you passports till the day it expires. it somewhat is conceivable to resume your Australian passport interior the U. S., yet oftentimes it would be speedier and easier to try this for the duration of Australia. in case you intend to shuttle in a month you are able to have an astounding sort of time to resume your passport before you bypass. As an grownup Australian passport is valid for ten years and you don't be attentive to how long you would be interior the U. S. it variety of feels sensible to resume it now.
