It depends on the situation. X-rays have been known to cause birth defects but most radiology centers have women of child bearing age use lead aprons, which helps prevent birth defects. I also had to wait until my 2nd trimester to have a dental x-ray and also had to get permission from my OB.

Hope this helps

I have my current X-ray license through the state of
California. If your sister is having X-rays it is absolutley imperative that she informs the professonials there that she is pregnant. X-rays during pregnancy have been linked to birth defects and a doctor needs to be okayed by a doctor.

Unless it is absolutely necessary, x-rays are not a good idea during pregnancy. The technician must know ahead of time that she is pregnant so that they can properly place a barrier between her belly and the machine.

It can cause damage to the baby during pregnancy to have x-rays, but it is minimal if a lead shield is used during it. I had to have one and asked the tech's that and that is what they told me.

yup.. it is bad .... sometimes it affect the fetus, and may cause some abnormalities in develpment.. however the chances are not high. and alot of people do it. your doctor should hold that answer... t is bad/harmful but it also depends on the stage her fetus s in. If he is well developed cances get slimmer... ask the doctor about the side effect.. and how slim are teh chances for her fetus to get affected...:) Good luck
i hope nothing happens ... and im wishing her all the best.
take care:)

As long as the doctor giving her the x-rays knows she is pregnant and there are some risks but sometimes it is okay. Her ob/gyn should know also that she has had or is going to have have x-rays.

Yes, but in some cases they may be medically necessary. She needs to let the Cray tech know she is pregnant they will call & get permission from her OB & extra percausion will be made also they will take minimal xrays.

before 12 weeks gestation is a big risk. but if the doctors doing the x-ray knew they would have to take all the right precautions, like making her wear the big heavy coat.

If she has to have xrays, then they will put a shield over her belly. But yeah, xrays - I think - aren't very wise during pregnancy.

Totally depends on the situation. She should always consult with her OB first and I at least know that for my dental x-ray, they had me wait til' my second trimester and they would only do one tooth (cavity).
