Liz,
a "good" score is very subjective and depends on what schools you want to attend. 50% is roughly 1400, and 90% is roughly 1900. But none of these figures matter to you. What's important is the median score of freshmen incoming to your schools of choice. What's "good" is being above the median. Pick 5 schools or so, call their admissions office and request this datum from each, and use the highest number. This is "good". Then attend a free practice SAT at your local Kaplan center to get a score. This is where you are today. Consider how far you are from your "good" in deciding where to go, how to prepare for the SAT, and what to do your Junior year/summer. And don't forget to check out the ACT - many students do much better on that standardized test.

Above all, research your target schools. Do your homework, take control of your life now, and you'll stay in control when admissions papers come in.

good luck!
