A moment of silence for the Texas Cyclone...

It's a shame, they told every one that land was premium real estate and already sold but it's still an empty lot. 610 does look very empty now.

A moment of silence for the Greesed Lightning...

yes it is very sad! i have not been in over a 1/4 of a century but my nice and her mother went last year just before they announced
they where closing for good but you have to blame sux [six] flags over Texas! i seem to recall that when first opened they were not owned by six flags and now they have them all ever the country so it
was just a ploy to monopolise entertainment just like the Houston chronicle shutting down the Houston post! so now you have to go to Dallas or San Antonio! i still remember going when i was a kid in the 60s and riding all the rides like the bamboo shoot and getting wet on a hot day as well as the sled ride in the alpine village where you ride up the mountain and down fast through the air condition and the go cart rides like le taxi and speed way and for a sense of adventure you can ride the river of no return like Indiana Jones looking for Tarzan because for a kid in the city that's as close to a safari as you can get what with the crocs and elephants and cannibals and then at the end the flame throwing statue with the cannon eyes that boom so loud! and then when i was a teen ager they opened the cyclone but in the beganing they only had a lap bar in the back which is the best part to ride in becasue of the whip lash as you go over the hill you accelerate over the cuvre and you float! but with just a lap bar i almost floated out! and im sure someone did after the fisrt year becsasue they put in more safty harneeses in after that!

I totally miss AstroWorld! I was a hardcore patron of the amusement park when I was a kid. I think what I miss the most are the kiddie and water rides. I never could really withstand the big coasters, so rides like the XLR-8 and Thunder River were my rides of choice. (I must mention, however, that I did allow my high school bud, Doug, to talk me into riding the Texas Cyclone twice back in '98.) I really hate they took it away...so many memories...

By the way...as weird as this may sound, I especially miss AstroWorld's overly priced, yet amazingly potent, Coca Cola. Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like their Coca Cola products had more kick (fizz)!

It is so sad, and just plain disappointing how scary it got as the years progressed. I do miss that place. I remember once my sister and I rode the Texas Cyclone 13 times in a row! geez...seems like a century ago..

Yes I do. I used to go there at least 3 times a summer and i would also go to Water world when it was really hot out. When i found out they were shutting it down i got sad. Then i saw the land it used to be on and i was amazed that Astroworld used to be there.

yeah i kinda wished it was still here. man it's so lonely in that open field of 610, I kinda wished they built a stadium over there for the Hosuton Dynamo or an NHL team.

I agree, too. I was a Senior in high school when it opened in the 60's, and I hated to see it close.
