I think that the best way to promote cultural awareness in the school community is to provide students and faculty with cultural events that are happening in your local community, providing local and inexpensive trips to the museums that are not cultural limited, getting students involved by doing research on different cultures that they are unaware of, surveying the community with things for example:( Do you listen to hip hop? Well if you do did you know that hip hop originated.....) you know something in that manner. Well there are alot of things that I would do to ensure that people know about other people culture besides there own.

One event I did in school for multicultural awareness was set up so that each classroom was a different country. My classroom was representing Australia. We decorated with their flag and played their national hymn and other songs. Even had food and what not popular from the country. Reports on some of their famous leaders / writers ...whatever, you get the point.
Every student in the entire school had a passport. And on one particular day we went around class at a time and visited the other classrooms. The students would have to tell the visiting "country (students)" about "their" country. It was a fun day of trying new foods and what not... maybe even week I can't remember how long it lasted... it was 5th grade.
Now, this was a hot minute ago and if you could actually pull it off with all the hyperactive disrespectful kids these days I would be surprised.

Easy. Talk to the principal or some authority and discuss with them a potential date during the school year where students from different countries host an activity. In our highschool, in university they have Multicultural day, where these students of different countries gather together in a cafeteria or some other public place and bring with them their cultural values. There is pictures of the country, intriguing things about the country, food, clothing, etc. It is a very cool event since you get to visit dozen countries in a very short trip.

by having different ethinicities and cultures gather as one. maybe have kids get to know each other's culture, background, and so forth. then there is talking to the principal which could arrange something to brong the kids together or listen to the suggestions made by the students. maybe habe a culture week at school which the principal may agree upon if asked and so forth. kids learning about others and where other kids come from, their background, ethinicity as well as culture is really important...

There is always talking. Having a child stand up in front of class and talk about his/her cultures.
Me..I would do plays of different cultures. It would be great fun for the kids putting on the plays and getting involved with each other while working on the plays.
