the beatles are popular because aside from all of the members being great musicians, they knew how to market themselves. their brand of rock/pop was new and different and they pioneered the way for a lot of other musicians.

im not sure which is the most popular song but i think some of their most meaningful songs is "nothing's gonna change my world" and "in my life"...arguably the two greatest beatles albulms are revolver and rubber soul.

They were one of the first groups to write adn play their own music,very few bands break outof Liverpool, later on they changed the face of rock and roll. Helter Skelter help start up heavy metal, while Obla di Obla da helped start ska. They consatntly changed for the better,made fantastic music, were(in my opinion) absolutely gorgeous. oh...and drugs had alot to do with their sound changing throughout the years. I love prettymuch allof their songs and it would kill me to actually have to pick but Strawberry Feilds Forver, Helter Skelter, Oh Darling, and Norweign wood are closer to the top. Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, and the White Album are probably my favoriet album...sorry this is super long:)

I think they became popular because they, especially Paul and John, wrote songs which are catchy and simple enough for anybody to remember and sing along.

PS - My favourites are "Nowhere Man" and "Here Comes the Sun" but they weren't as popular as "Please Please Me", "Love Me Do", "I Want to Hold Your Hand", etc.
