Nothing is bad to kids and that includes Rap and Hip-hop music. It's the way you bring them up and teach them the right way to enjoy the music as well as looking at the good side of things and not being influence by the bad side.

I suppose any music could be harmful to anyone really. I know that I LOVE Rap and Hip Hop and I am a spiritual, professional 36 year old! I don't necessarily listen to "gangster" rap, but the stuff played on the radio stations, yes.

Also I have a nephew who has always listened to (and played) VERY heavy Metal (don't even know what it's called now) and he turned out GREAT! Does not do drugs, drink, smoke, nothing!

Basically, if the child is raised with good values and understands whats wrong and whats right, they should be fine!

In my opinion it's depend to the parents and the kids.
All we have to do is keep trying to follow what our children do in their music life. And also give them our words about what is going on with their music, like in the lyrics, the way they do in some video, or the life that the srtist do in the news.
For me every music is good, not bad at all. From the music we can live our life much better, but we have to keep alert about the music that we listen to. So we can make some blocks that hold and filtering the music that our children hear.
Like rap or hip hop music, let our children know : Why the rap or hip hop sound like that, why the lyrics are like that, what is behind the lyric mean. Tell them the history of this kind of music.

You know most of that area in music is artist dealing with other artist they throw a line out to another artist and one throws it back as for most of the other music its not all that bad its just an artist telling his fans about his life, as long as our children dont take that outside of the radio meaning going to school and calling each other names or firing gun or whatever than i personally dont think its a problem. Besides you should give your children more credit anyways they actually know what some of the rappers are saying it and they know its all about the money. But its not the greatest influence on a child i agree however just imagine what goes on in school or at a party or somewhere your not it could be alot worse than what they are hearing through the radio. I hope this helps you

It's up to Parents to decide what's appropriate for their Children
to hear and listen to weather it's rap or death metal.

You wouldn't let a 9 year old kid listen to a song like dyers eve from Metallica or songs praising chemical warfare and death/destruction
you make the rules.

Truthfully the very violent World we live in now is a worse influence on Children than music will ever be.

A lot of rap and Hip Hop degrades females..I know it's only to sell the tunes.. but what is it doing to the you girls growing up hearing that kind of stuff.... the rest is just the way it is.. every generation of parents have said that the music is corrupting their kids..

Man, I hate to say it because I do enjoy me some "trunk-thumping" Hip Hop beats..... but yeah, it probably is bad for the little ones. I mean, just off the top of my head I can't even think of a single popular rap out right now that doesn't have sex or weed references in the lyrics. Sad.

Not all the Rap/HipHop music is a bad influence. For example Nelly, Ciara, Missy Elliot

It is but if they really are then the parents did a bad job parneting cause chidlren are suppose to be smart enough to distinguish "good" from wrong and are suppose to be taught self confidence so they dont give in to peer pressure
