Teddy Bear hamsters and larger are more people friendly compared to dwarf hamsters. Teddy Bears need to be alone because they will attack other hamsters. I have a teddy bear (Turbo) and a dwarf (Nibbler) in 2 seperate cages. Turbo likes to be cuddled and will take food from my hands (this only occured after about a month of getting used to each other). Nibbler on the other hand hides and will bite when I'm trying to take her out to change over her shavings.

Some important things to remember with hamsters:

Do not buy a hamster for children under the age of 7 or 8:
A hamster can and will bite if not handled properly. Nibbler my dwarf, she was mishandled by a 4 year old and a 6 year old and bit the 4 year old in the parent's presence. It's not that she wasn't careful, but she would hold Nibbler to tight to keep her from squirming. Do some research on the best way to care for a hamster before you buy one. Dwarf hamsters are less likely to enjoy being handled by humans.

When you do buy a hamster, keep the hamster in its cage for at least three days. Do not attempt to touch your hamster during this time as he/she is adapting to their new surroundings. Unlike cats and dogs, hamsters and other rodents are extremely nervous creatures.

Also, try to never wake your hamster up. They are naturally night creatures and if they're woken up from sleep they'll believe that something is trying to capture them and eat them. After a while, 3 months or so, the hamster will begin to understand your routine. Turbo, my teddy bear, actually will wake up and run in his wheel when my alarm clock goes off in the morning.

It's important that you buy a cage big enought for your hamster. I had a fancy and stylish cage for Turbo, but unfortunately because of not only his age (around 4years supposedly), but his size, it became difficult

I've had Turbo now for 3 years and he's doing great. Nibbler is only 9 months old and she's doing good as well. Good luck with your decision!

theres not really any particular breed thats the most friendly

every hamoster has its own disposition

some are naturally friendly some are bitter

your best chance for finding a friendly hampster is trial and error

go to the pet store and don't let them rush you out

stay there till you get the one thats best for you

believe me not only are they great companions but if u get a good one you can use them to breed make a lil cash on the side
