Punk funk legend Rick James, age 56, died of natural causes at his Hollywood home a little before 10am Friday August 6, 2004. James best known for his 1981 hit "Super Freak" was found dead by his housekeeper and his personal physician signed his death certificate. An autopsy will not be performed.
Rick James was born James Johnson on February 1, 1948 in Buffalo, N.Y. James ran away to join the Naval Reserves, then he ran away from the Navy to Toronto, where he played bass in several bands.
