The main reason the NCAA uses aluminum bats is expense. An aluminum bats costs a heck of a lot more than your wooden Louisville Slugger, but it lasts practically forever, while I've seen games (Pirate fan--a little sympathy please) where batters have gone through two or three bats in nine innings. Thank God that I played Little League back in the Stone Age (actually, Barney Rubble was our star third-baseman) when we used wooden bats. Call me a;purist, but the sound of aluminum hitting horsehide kinda sucks. No only that, but an aluminum bat is one big "sweet spot." If you make contact, you can cream the ball, even if you get jammed on the fists or barely hit it on the end of the bat. Try that with wood.

Basically...because the NCAA wants money. If they switched to wood offense would drop drastically. Offense puts people in the seats. They love home runs, they love high scoring games. Only the TRUE baseball fans can appreciate a 1-0 game. Unfortunately, there just arent enough of those around, so they need to appeal to the people on the edge who love seeing the ball hit 500 feet. Some conferences at the college level limit their colleges to using only wood, however, the NCAA allows the use of Aluminum in general.

I used to live near a high school baseball field, well close to a mile away actually, the only thing we could hear was the roar of the crowd and some of the announcing and that CLANK of those bats. I hate that CLANK. I know players like them because the ball goes farther, I'm just glad that they will never be in MLB

Who knows...it is a pretty gay idea. Never mind that many of those great hitters in NCAA get to the big leagues and can't hit the ball out of the infield. What does that tell you??
