Use anything that turns you on, butter, grease, raw meat, anything that works is safe. Masturbation is suppose to be pleasurable so use whatever you want to bring you pleasure. It's nobody's business but your own. In addition, do not use toothpaste or anything else that contains abrasives that can cause irritation to the penis.

I'm assuming you're a male for my answer...

The short answer is yes, I think. It is probably best to ask a medical professional if you really want to be safe. I am not a medical professional.

I think it is safe because your penis is coated with skin, not mucosal membrane (such as inside your mouth, inside your penis, inside your butt, etc.). Skin is much less sensitive than mucosal layers. That being said, you may want to avoid getting any inside your penis (i.e. near the tip of the glans, or too near your anus for that matter), as some lotions are slightly acidic or contain irritants to mucosal tissues.

Chances are, if anything, there would only be slight irritation... nothing damaging or as bad as a urinary infection (your urinary track is much longer than a females). To be safe from this, pee as soon as you can after masturbating to clean our your system (if you can, I understand some guys don't like to pee right away).

STAY AWAY from lotions containing alpha hydroxy or beta hydroxy. These peel the skin and have a higher risk of irritation than other lotions. Peeling the skin is a way of exfoliating, which is generally good for skin, but your naughty bits are delicate ;) Beta hydroxy acid is also known as salicylic acid.

Overall though... I'd say invest in lube. Two of the very best are Astroglide, and Eros (pjur brand) original bodyglide. These are made with silicone, are condom compatible (if you get to that), and are very slippery without ANY stickyness. They are more expensive than most lubes though. Try eBay. They can be shipped to you discretely and buying through eBay is MUCH cheaper than the store (by sometimes 30 bucks or more). Silicone is also a very nice moisturizer. You can even put it in your hair if you want. Stay away from "WET" brand lubricant, it's too sticky, I think. WET Platinum is an exception to this as it is made with silicone. If you do buy a cheaper lube and it "dries out", to save lube and not use it up as fast, add a little more water (from a spray bottle, glass of water, wash cloth, water) as it "reactivates" the slippery-ness. Or you could spit on your palm.

If you do choose a silicone-based lube rather than a water-based lube, don't use the silicone-based lube with silicone-containing sex toys. I'm not sure if the fleshlight (for example) has silicone in it or not, but if it does, the lube will start to make the toy disintegrate.

Have fun

Probably a good idea to go buy lube of some sort. I think KY is a good one but i have never used it. I dont know if lotion is safe or unsafe, but i have read on the internet about using mayo, i think, so if that wont hurt i dont imagine lotion will hurt you but i would clean up some afterwards. lol.

Good Luck.
