Hi, I travelled up through Malaysia on my own and loved it. The scenery was beautiful, the food was fantastic and it was also very cheap. You can also find some really isolated beautiful islands.

The people were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and I ended up making some great friends there. I would go again tomorrow.

I am a Scot living in Brunei, and have travelled extensively within South East Asia/Malaysia. I associate the area with beautiful scenery, cleanliness and friendly people. The downsides (for a European!) are squat toilets, poor infrastructure in places - the roads in Sarawak for example are just appalling, and, unfortunately, bad drivers with children sitting on the driver's lap (they do, honestly!). In cities such as KL, there is fantastic shopping to be had, and plenty of bars and fantastic restaurants - in more rural Malaysia, the food is a little more basic - Nasi Katok anyone? - but the countryside is beautiful. The resorts are just gorgeous, Kota Kinabalu will always be a favourite place. In summary, the positives far outweight the negatives - you have pretty much everything you want in Malaysia - beach resorts, cosmopolitan cities, wild jungle - there aren't many countries that can boast all of those.

I love Malaysia. I've been visiting for over 15 years and even lived there for a time. It's a beautiful country with friendly people, great scenery, fantastic culture, amazing food, fabulous nightlife, wonderful hotels and resorts, gorgeous beaches. It does have it's problems - but what country doesn't?
