How many years would it take in college (I am planning on attending University of Washington) to get a Masters Degree in Law.

Also another question slightly off subject: I heard that if you pass your first year of Law School, it is almost gaurunteed that you will do well? Also, I heard it is all reading and writing, is this true?
Thank You !

The professional law program takes three years and leads to the JD (Doctor of Law) degree. A bachelor's (4-year) degree is required for admission to the program.

The Master of Laws is an advanced law degree, abbreviated LL.M., which is taken after the JD has been earned. It focuses on a specialized area of law. One of the most popular LL.M. degrees in the United States is tax law. Other common programs include environmental law, human rights law, commercial law, intellectual property law and international law. The LL.M. course usually takes one year of full-time study.

Bottom line - it will take you 8 years in college - 4 at the bachelor's degree level, 3 in law school, and 1 in your specialty.

If you are successful in your first year of law school you will likely do well thereafter, but you will have to continue to maintain a high level of achievement.

It would help if you learned to spell correctly, in all of your classes. I don't know about passing your first year of Law School, but if you work hard at it, you should be able to do well. It usually takes 4 years for Pre Law and then another 2-4 for a masters. Good Luck. Also, there isn't usually a masters offered in Law.

BA takes 4 and a law degree takes 3. So about 7 years.

As for the first year, it's guaranteed you will do well if you put an effort into it. Don't slack off because you think your guaranteed to pass because it may be just reading and writing (it's much more though). If you do think that, you probably will not pass. Put an effort into it and you will pass.

Reading, writing, and memorization - yes. If you take full course loads and can get all your classes, a BA takes 4 years and a law degree takes 3. Just so you know, you don't get a Masters in Law, you get a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

There IS a Masters offered in law. It is called an LL.M degree. It takes eight years to acquire it. You have to receive a B.A. Degree, then a J.D. degree before you can obtain a LL.M. A LL.M only takes one year to complete.
