my friend subleasing the apartment last year, she was late last month and she paid late charges.now is new lease they demand another deposit already gave two months they want three months deposit .is this legal? she refuse to give more deposit,than they said write why don't you give extra deposit,can you tell me what can she write on that note,thank you all.

A sublease is, as the word indicates, a lease with the original lessee. Your deposit will depend upon your sub-lease contract. There is no statutory minimum.

Demanding more deposit on a new lease is completely legal. If your friend refuses, she can be evicted. The best thing she can do is to try and negotiate with the original lessee to basically have them change their mind.

The landlord, unfortunately, can ask for as much deposit as theywant. Also they can raise your rent as much as they want. Your friend should just move and get all of the deposit back and go put it down on another apt
