There is a good homeopathic remedy that is available in most health food stores. Called "Occilicosinum". ... You should find it very helpful.
Otherwise,... I have always recieved miraculous, virtually overnight results towards the the elimination of a cold via Chinese herbology from a licensed practitioner of Oriental Medicine (acupuncturist). ........... Not all acupuncturists practice Chinese Herbology however,.. so you should check before you choose to go to one.
I can also share with you that barring seeking help from the suggestions I've given above,..... My alternative suggestion is that a good long deep sleep is extremely healing for a cold. .... You could get one of those over the counter cold medicines,.. such as "Contact",... and take it just before you go to bed (nice and early). The med. will relieve your symptoms enough and put you into a deep sleep that will allow your body to do the healing work it needs to do. ..... I realise you stated that you do not want to take meds,.. and neither would I,.. but if you don't want to go to a doctor of Oriental Medicine,.. that is the alternatiive approach I would take.......... It does work very well.
Other than that,.. drink plenty of fluids and avoid sugar like the plague.

About 15 yrs or more I woke up one day and the glands under my ear by my jaw were swollen & hurt ... and it hurt me to swallow.
I knew I was coming down with something but had clients to see.
One of my clients was the owner of a health food store and when I told him my problem he dumped a half dozen zinc lozengers in my hand and told me to suck on one every few hours.
I took one right away, when I finally got home I took another and one before I went to sleep. I woke up feeling GREAT ... but took another one just to make sure.
I did some research and found out that zinc boosts the immune system!
Since then I learned about echinachea ... a herb which cleans the blood, almost like a natural antibiotic. You can get it in almost any form, but I like the liquid. I put it under my tongue for a couple of minutes, swallow ... then drink some orange juice after.
You can do both 4 xs a day ... but for no more than 4 days.
That should knock it out of your system fairly quickly.
I do this at the first sign of not feeling 100% ... and I generally don't have to do it for more than a day. In the future, don't wait until it takes hold ... do it right away & it will stop your cold instantly.
Also, chicken soup can't hurt! It is warm, comforting & seems to have properties that ease the symptoms of a cold.

Herbs that help fight a cold: echinacea, golden seal, garlic.
For congestion, fenugreek.
For fever and aches - feverfew, ginger, cayenne, and white willow.
Hot drinks such as herbal tea with honey and lemon (and a dash of rum to help heat things up).
A really hot bath until you start to sweat (at least 20 minutes) then dry off, dress in warm clothes and get under some warm covers and sweat it out for an hour. The heat kills the virus or bacteria, then lots of clear fluids to clear your system.

Lots of fluids. Lots of nose blowing. If your appetite is shot take a multivitamin. Get what rest you need, and what light activity you can handle.
Avoid "presenteeism" so you don't spread your cold to coworkers and cause more absenteeism than your own. If you must interact with others, cough & sneeze into the crook of your elbow instead of your hands so you won't spread your cold so much via things you touch.
