there is a world ranking list of universities where you can look it up. I would recommend to also check on the specific subject. A top university may be great in a number of subjects but still very bad for some others. Also if a person is highly ranked in their field it does not necessarily mean that they are also nice and/or a good teacher, this qualites are not measured. So more considerations than the overall rank of the university should play in your decision where to apply.
