Its a middle aged crisis where suddenly your emotions change. Its usually because people feel they are getting old and that scares them. they dont feel old, they feel young. and they want to prove it.
sometimes it seems like the world is caving in on them and its very scary. they feel unsatisfied with there lives.
imagine you're a man about 45, but in your mind you are still that cool studly 17 year old. then one morning you wake up next to a 45 year old woman, and 3 kids, you go and look in the mirror and you are balding and carrying around a spare tire. thats not you in the mirror! who is that! its just plain scary.
thats how i think of it anyways.

wow. I think that is a casual term associated with any behaviour that seems a little out of the ordinary for the person in question. Mid-life indicates middle age (40 to 50). I think for women it is a physiological condition brought on by menopause. But that is just a guess as I am not an expert nor a professional with training in any medical field.
I think for men it has a lot to do with having finished with so many different responsibilities, like raising a family, paying for a home, etc..
As humans, we all react differently to our circumstances. Some people really end up in a crisis, such as being mentally irritated, upset, or incapacitated to some degree. Others try to regain their youth (symbolically) through various means, while knowing full well that it isn't going to work.
But don't worry about it. Live your life to the fullest while you can and accept yourself for who you are. If you do that, chances are you will never suffer a 'crisis'.

Nobody kinows at what age a "Mid-Life Crisis" occurs. Does anyone really know what a mid-life crisis is? Do we HAVE to have a crisis at all? I am close to 70 and cannot remember having any such crisis.
I think that some people will grab at any excuse to have a life failure. Things like "I can have an affair because I'm in mid-life." That is so much bull-crap. There is such a thing as people who fear success and success comes to most people at mid-life (40's or 50's). I don't know what causes such a thing but, I do believe it is about a fear of succeeding that makes most people fail ant then blame it on a "mid-life" crisis. Do you have to have such a crisIs? Probably not.

They get really depressed around the 40s... They realize, "Wow. I'm halfway through my life and only have halfway to go." The shock comes from self-realization of age.
