They say they are not interested in reading something that is fake. Have they no imagination at all? I find that these people are perfectly capable of enjoying movies and television programs, so? And really, even non-fiction is told from anothers point of view. What makes it so much more "real"? Cannot any truth be found in made up stories? So whats the big deal?

It's not that I want to force anyone to think my way. But when someone says they beleive or feel a certain way, they should be able to back it up. I think that "because it isn't real" is a bogus answer for some one who watches and enjoys movies to give. A danger of being fooled into beleiving bs is just as applicable to non-fiction.

Most people I've met who say things like that are pedantic jerks who like to dismiss things out of hand. Important issues are often best handled in fiction, presenting possible answers and scenarios that cold facts don't convey well.

I agree with you. Why would you spend so much time reading about real life or watching reality shows when you have to deal with it all of the rest of the time. My reality isnt always so lovely so when I get the time to watch cartoons or read a book of written from someones pure imagination, I like to take full advantage of that. The Dalai Lama says that the purpose of our lives is only to find happiness. Why waste free time doing things that other people will admire you for if it doesnt make you happy? Take the time to do something for yourself once in a while or you will find your whole life has passed you by.

There is something very compelling about true stories. Of course, well-written fiction can draw you in and make you believe in the author's world. I don't want to read something like James Frey's books, though, which purport to be true but are largely fictionalized.

yeah, i read fiction much more than non. i don't get people who say they can't relate to fiction. i find i'm much more stimulated by fiction. the imagination and craziness of it!

then again, i guess hearing about amazing, weird, wacky or F-ed up real things is interesting too.

They have told you their preference and why . . .
The real question should be . . . Why can't you accept what they have told you ? Why should they be coerced into doing it your way ?
