I just had a thought that mankind could be considered socially evolved if we found a permanent alternative to war. I mean, if two nations are disputing the rights to some land or resource, why should the ability to kill and destroy decide the winner? There has to be a better way. I'm not smart enough to think of what that might be right now, but someone must be.

Ok guy, think about this. When men are angry with each other what usually happens? Even if the guys are buddies they usually resort to fighting. Physically. Now women on the other hand, for the most part, prefer to talk out the problem and solve it without violence. Maybe if women were in charge of the world, things wouldnt be so bad. Or maybe if men would stop with the macho crap, we could live a little more worry free. War is a result of the ego. A "mine is bigger, better, cooler, smarter than yours" type of thing that never produces good but always produces unnecessary evil.

Until there is so few people they don't come into contact or do so on such rare occassions they are happy to see another, the answer is "yes". If it wasn't oil, it will be food, or clean water. As the planet gets hotter, drier in farmlands and population increases, what do you expect, cooperation and brotherhood of all mankind? You might be able to sell that in the UN or Washington, getting the rest of the world to buy into it will be the tricky part. Good Luck.
Oh sorry, I guess I should give some optimistic message of hope, peace and prosperity, well some believe in this guy called Jesus Christ, who for his efforts got crucified, and now his religion is painted as evil, archaic, etc. etc. The baby got tossed out with the bathwater. Now everyone is getting nukes, but promising to only use them in self defense.

There's always going to be a war, as long as we have disagreements. Not one person is just right. One can only hope we will be at peace and indeed have it, but at what price?
Your statement regarding socially evolved is interesting and admirable... socialism means control. How efficient is the outcome? The problem I see with socialism is that it leads to dictatorship; like Marxism and capitalism.

I just had a thought too! Why am I on this computer instead of out among people socializing. It probably is because I get more opportunity to express myself and "hear" other people's opinions than I do in a group.Until we learn to not fear one another(which fears start arguments, fights and wars) and accept one another as we are we will be prone to pursue "wealth, power and fame" (the three seducers) instead of "truth, beauty and goodness".

It is sad that this is the human condition. Humans must transcend greed, selfishness, ego, anger and other petty traits if we are ever to get beyond war as the ultimate expression of might = right.

Nope. Most wars are preventable, but violence is inevitable when there are not enough resources (food, water, oil) for everyone. A nation would not willingly give up resources that are critical to the survival of its people: it runs counter to evolution!

Read plato's republic, it might help you understand mans journey. Or more importantly the world we live in, "War" is about power, do some research on who is buying more US treasury bonds than any other country, this will lead to answers. It is about money and power, not about humanity.

Your logic is good. I don't see it happening. War has always been. You would think by now that mankind had figured out how stupid war is.

We can only hope.

sorry to get all geeky but the only way i can see mankind being at peace with each other is if we all have to collectively fight something else. and since the environmental problems aren't enough its gotta be an alien invasion. so bring it on you little green bastards.

There will as long as we don't eliminate bad people. The problem is who has the wisdom and guts to do it? Then about land disputes, who deserves it, someone who lets it be or someone who improves and nourishes it.
